Roy Sigsbey's 1986 Grand Wagoneer

Nov. 01, 2005 By ORC STAFF

Howdy, my name is Roy. Last year I acquired this wonderful work horse to assist in keeping my driveway clear of snow during the winter. Little did I know how timely a decision that was. The now famous Blizzard of '97 for Colorado. I live in the Black Forest, just north of Colorado Springs. We had four feet of slushy white stuff in 24 hours. It took me 6 hours to dig out with this 1986 Grand Wagoneer using the back up and slam the pile technique. It really amazed me how well it took the abuse. A check by my mechanic showed no apparent damage after the ordeal.

The Wagoneer is all stock, and all original, except for new front springs (not yet installed when these photos were taken). The factory original springs were completely flat from 12 years of having a snow blade attached. The engine is a 360 2bbl and had rusted out air injection manifolds when I bought it. A pair of 3/4" steel tubes, the old manifold riser tubes, and an acetylene welding rig were used to create new manifolds.

I now drive this wonder daily and REALLY like it. It's solid, comfortable and performs extremely well in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Visibility out of these things is second to none, and the trailering capability is excellent (factory towing package installed!).

Notice the grill matches the '87 up Wagoneers and the side trim and labeling matches the '85. This is truly a cross over year model, last of the AMC Wagoneers and primer for the Chrysler years.
