Chevrolet plans to give the Silverado a facelift for the 2017 model year to bring it more in line with both the midsize Colorado pickup and the new heavy-duty Silverado models.

We don’t expect a great number of changes to the look of the ’17 Silverado short of a new grille, headlights, slight styling line tweaks and maybe a few interior updates. What could be most intriguing about the updated truck could be the new 10-speed automatic transmission that’s being co-developed with Ford (for which sister site AutoGuide.com uncovered a patent for an 11-speed trans). It’s possible that Chevrolet might also offer a smaller-displacement turbocharged V6 to compete with Ford’s Ecoboost V6s in the 2015 F-150.

Chevrolet has more changes slotted for the Silverado for 2019. GM is reportedly working on an aluminum-intensive cab and bed for the truck in a bid to keep up with Ford and fuel economy standards. Expect to see the 2017 Silverado debut sometime next year.
