The Jeep Grand Cherokee is set to get another refresh for the coming model, and spy photographers caught the first glimpse of the new SUV out testing for the first time.

The in the photos, the current Grand Cherokee can be seen in the background behind the prototype of the new Grand Cherokee. The new GC will feature modest updates for the coming year, which includes a new front fascia and an updated grille that features a little more spacing between the slats. We expect to also see changes to the lower fascia and fog lights that are hiding just under the Jeep camouflage.

During the shoot, photographers noted that at least one prototype in the group had a camouflaged badge on the front fenders, which they believe will signify that particular Grand Cherokee is a special edition with the badge underneath celebrating Jeep’s upcoming 75th anniversary.

It is expected that the new Grand Cherokee will also get an updated version of the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine, which will include modest improvements to fuel economy and horsepower, and we also expect the Pentastar will be E15 fuel compatible.

Production for the new Grand Cherokee is set for the first quarter of 2016, which could make this either a 2016 or 2017 model year car.
