2017 Jeep Compass Captured During Testing

Photographers recently caught a few snaps of the 2017 Jeep Compass during testing in Metro Detroit. The heavily camouflaged new SUV appears will replace both the Compass and Patriot crossovers, fitting in the Jeep lineup between the Renegade and Cherokee. According to sources, the Compass name will likely carry over to the new model.

The new Compass is based on a stretched version of the Renegade and Fiat 500X platform, and it will look larger than the outgoing model that's been on sale since 2007, though with slightly less-blocky styling than the little Renegade.

The new Compass will be one of the first recipients of FCA's new family of engines, dubbed Hurricane, with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder being one engine option, which will likely be paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

We expect to get our first clear glimpse of the 2017 Compass at an auto show in early 2016 with an on-sale date by fall of next year.
