Off-Road.com's - Full Size Jeeps

Moshi Simha's 1980 Cherokee

Nov. 01, 2005 By ORC STAFF

Hi
I drive a 1980 jeep (picture below) those jeeps are not often seen here and I can't get much information about it- history of such cars, technical information and just someone to share my enthusiasm or give me advices.

My jeep has a 6 cylinders engine (4.2L) and was elevated about 2-3 inches I?m not sure by both spring and body lift. It has a manual shift 4+R which I had preferred when I was searching for one because I like the extra control it gives you on the trail. I know many people say that the automatic gear is nicer and I?m sure that the companies had solved all my problems long before I had a driving license but you may call me old fashioned. I have 10x15 wheels which are within the limitations of license tests here (custom changes are not easily accepted).

4x4 is becoming more popular here like in many other places in the world, as first car rather than hobby cars. You may see Toyotas, Land Rovers, Mitsubishis and lately Grand Cherokees. Cars are very expensive even when old. I had paid almost 5000$ for my car but this particular kind is hardly seen and therefore there is no market price for it but I wanted it very much though it is not in an optimal shape. I like mostly the use more than the upgrading I don?t have enough time to spend and it is very expensive.

We live in Jerusalem. God here is in a local call. I don?t know how much you know about Israel and Jerusalem usually people who come here say that all they heard never came close to reality. Usually when you see it with your own eyes you love it. It has some specialty.

On a mountain in the Judean Desert, 15 miles SE of Jerusalem

You have asked me about trees in the picture - well in that area there are no trees it was taken on a top of a mountain in the judea desert 15 miles south-east of Jerusalem.

The city is situated on mountains 750-800 meters. The row of mountains laying from north to south is serving as a barrier for rain coming from the mediteranian sea in the west and therefore as water line. Jerusalem is at the top so when you go sight seeing you look east the colors are light brown with the desert appearance and when you look west its green with trees. There is a very thin line between them.

If you want I can get some pictures (with or without the jeep) and send you. Israel is in the connection between Africa and Asia so we have a lot of small areas very different but relatively close to each other.

In the Sinai Desert near the monastery of St. Catherine

The attached picture was taken in Sinai desert somewhere near the famous monastery of Saint Catherine. Sinai is in Egyptian area and under the peace agreement Israeli 4x4 are not allowed but this was some special arrangement that I had managed to join as a doctor of a 4x4 tour.
