Looks like a good solution. I, too, have an '88 Cherokee w/never-ending cooling problems. Since I don't have the tools and the mechanical inclinclination, anybody know of someone in San Diego who could do this type of job?

GREAT idea. I've spent almost $100 trying to fix an overheating problem. priced out this idea using a friend at napa (and a 2 core rad.) and it's only going to cost $150. looks easy enough pull the rad and change a couple or hoses. be sure to let you know how it goes. once again thanks for the idea i would have never thought to do this or figured out the parts for it.

Wow, that was pretty fast and really easy. Solved all my overheating pronlems and only took 2 hrs. took a little long due to friends and beer but a good afternoon project for any XJ

Would this conversion work for a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer 4.0?

JUST finished the conversion. I was in the same situation where I had a leaky rad and I probably went through 3 bottles of coolant before taking on the swap. It was done on a 1990 4.0 Laredo and it took me a total of 10 hours (I took my time so if you're more mechanically inclined you would probably take less time). I spent a total of $250; I changed every single part except for the water pump and got a 3 core rad from a different company than GDI. The result of the swap looks a heck of a lot neater than the old setup and makes the compartment more accessible. I'm still needing to figure out how to wire up the old temp sensor for the aux fan but it shouldnt be a problem for now the 3 cores should keep the temps down. The measurements you gave were spot on too. Thanks a lot for posting this!!
