 | Mountaineer Rack
November 1, 2005 By: Tony Carricaburu
After several weekend off-roading trips, it became very much apparent that I was lacking in the cargo space and packing area. I debated on a Jamboree rack (over spare tire style) but I was never to fond of the look, plus I removed my tire carrier and spare tire so it just wouldn't look right. I came across two options. Kilby Enterprises makes a very nice in-cab cargo rack for any year or model Jeep Wrangler (YJ, TJ). The other option was a new product from Olympic 4x4 Products which is called the Mountaineer Rack. It's basically the same design and overall concept as the Kilby rack but about 1/3 the price. I decided to go with the Olympic rack and figured if it didn't work out I'd only be out $70.00. I ordered the rack threw Essentials catalog sometime in early July 00'. The rack appeared at my door on September 15th. I know it was really pathetic service. I don't feel it was Essentials fault; from what they explained to me Olympic basically introduced this new product line without being ready for a high demand. In other words, my Mountaineer Rack was on back order for about 8 weeks. Anyway, enough of the boring stuff, the rack is here and it's time to check it out. |
 | HERCULINER

In this article I will cover the steps and experiences I had while applying Herculiner bed liner to the body tub of a 1990 Jeep Wrangler. After removing the old factory carpet kit from 1990, I realized how much attention my Jeep Wrangler's tub needed. Fortunately, there wasn't any rust or corrosion, but the scratches were pretty bad. I considered a new carpet kit but figured it would be beat up and thrashed in a couple years. I wanted something more permanent. Since my Jeep, at this time, was still my daily commuter, I couldn't strip the insides out and take it somewhere to get professionally rhino-lined. Not to mention a professional lining would cost anywhere from $350 to $500 bucks. I decided that if I wanted a spray on bed liner, I was going to have to do it myself. Without any tools to spray my own, I had only one choice, and that was Herculiner. Herculiner bed liner is a do-it-yourself shadetree mechanic alternative to those professional linings. Another good thing about Herculiner is that it's about 1/5th the price of a professional job. After reviewing several product review articles and personal webpage write-ups posted on the Internet, Herculiner sounded the like the best alternative to a spray on bed-liner. |

My Project "Rock Buggy" has undergone several engine modifications in the past year. One in particular was the new 4.0L head retrofit conversion on my 4.2L block. This increased the horsepower substantially, estimated 40hp gain. At the time of the conversion I ended up using a used header from a friends recently totaled 88' Jeep Cherokee 4.0L. The reason for using this header was because of two reasons, One the header was Free! and the other reason being was that the header was there during the conversion. We'll it's time for a real header, I wanted something that both added better exhaust flow and increase in horsepower, that also added that header performance exhaust tone. Plus the Borla header also provides a awesome 100% stainless steel construction that will last and shine forever. In this article im going to explain the process of installing my Borla Stainless Steel Header on my 4.0L headed Jeep Wrangler. I will also include a overall header evaluation / conclusion of this 1-million mile warranty header. Below are some pictures of the Borla Header before installation. |

There comes a time when every vehicle needs a new stereo system. Either the factory one isnt cutting it anymore or perhaps your old stereo doesnt have all the options you want. For my application, my Cherokee was in desperate need of a stereo upgrade. For about 8 months I've been struggling with the same AM/FM factory Jeep stereo. This stock unit couldnt be much more pathetic when it comes to options. Basicly AM/FM, bass, treble, and volume adjustments, thats it. That and it was only powering 2 factory door speakers. Keep in mind that this is my commuter and is driven about 1 hour each way to work. A good friend of mine was nice enough to get me a Clarion CD player for Christmas. Since my Project YJ is already equipped with a Sony CD player this one was definitly going in my '95 Jeep Cherokee. Read below for more details on this stereo installation / review. |
 | SPORT CAGE INSTALLED IN MY JEEP WRANGLER [YJ]

NSTALL PART 4:
After installing the cross bar and setting the two optional spreader bars into position it was time to start bolting some of these bars down. Since I had already drilled and bolted the cross bar down to the side bars its was time to drill and bolt the side bar floor board mounts and bolt them into position. I went ahead and began drilling and bolting down the floor-board side bar plates. Before drilling these holes I had a friend pull on the side bar bringing the side bar as close as they could away from the dash and towards the inner rock panel. This step isn't required but I wanted the cage to be further away from the dash than the bar was setting at rest. this would avoid rattling or rubbing on the dash, plus this would give me a touch more leg and foot room in the floor-board area. After securing the driver-side floor board mount I followed the same steps on the passenger-side with the exact same results. See pictures below for details. |

The M.O.R.E. Cage is almost coming to a conclusion. I went ahead and finished the sport-cage's finish by sanding and priming the rest of the bars for a couple coats of paint. Using the same rattle can matched Krylon red I sprayed a first coat on all the bars including the bolts, nuts and other bars that already had paint (basically everything). I then had to wait a couple hours for that coat to some what dry before I sprayed a couple more coats of red on. For some reason this heavy-duty Krylon paint takes forever to dry even at 75 degrees with the sun baking on it. |
