The
wheels originally used on Project 'Trail J'
came off of my old 91 YJ. I actually bought these before I knew anything about
backspacing. They were American Eagle
15x8 series 589's. The backspacing was
3.75", which stuck out a bit far
for my tastes. Rubicon Express recommended
a wheel with 4 - 4.25" of backspacing to help avoid rubbing with their lift
kit. I recently switched to AR767 black steel wagon wheels. They
have 4" backspacing. I had to add a washer to the steering stops, but
the wheels don't stick out as much. As
with most 4 wheelers out there, I wanted the old standard BF Goodrich MT
33x12.50 tires. Due to an upcoming Rubicon trip and low cash flow, I began to
look for alternatives. I found some nice tires made by Corduvan, and sold at
Grand Auto, called Wild Trac. These tires have a strong lug pattern, with siping
and stud holes. The tread seems a bit softer than BFG, and it only has 2 ply
sidewall, unlike the BFG. The tires run $90 each, which saved me about $200 at
the time. So far, I am very impressed with the performance of the tires. They
are quieter than BFG's, ride very nicely on the road (28 psi), and grip well on
the rocks.Follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/OffRoadDotCom
