Once you get the tie rod removed you need to
remove the tracbar. Loosen and remove the lower mount and then use
a tie rod separator to remove the rod end at the frame.
Here's where you'll be drilling the tapered
mount.
Using a 9'16" drill bit, drill out the top of
the taper. You're doing this to make the top of the taper wider so
that you can use the supplied bolt.
The "Johnny Joint" on the trackbar has a
smaller end and a bigger end. The smaller end will go towards the
ground. Feed the supplied bolt through the small end.
Here's a shot of the included tapered
sleeve.
This larger end will go against the frame
mount.
Put the bolt through the smaller end then put
the tapered sleeve on then push the bolt through the frame mount
slip on the washer and then the nut.
Tighten the bolt to 85 ft/lb. and make sure
that the tapered sleeve is not showing between the "Johnny Joint"
and the frame mount. If it is, remove the tracbar and file the
tapered sleeve so that there is no gap. The joint should fit tight
against the frame mount. (Blue arrow)
You'll see here another photo showing the
correct orientation of the "Johnny Joint."
Next adjust the lower end for proper length to
center your axle underneath your Jeep. Then slide the lower mount
up into the hole on the axle mount.
Here's the new JKS tracbar
installed.
It will be important to get the new tie rod
ends adjusted at approximately the same length as the ones you just
took off in order to keep your alignment close. After the install
you should check the toe of the vehicle or have the alignment
checked at a shop.
Go ahead and stick the
rod ends into their proper holes. Loosely tighten the castle nuts
to hold it in place. It is a good idea to grease these new joints
before tightening the nut down. After greasing, go ahead and
tighten the castle nuts and install the cotter pin. Do NOT leave
out the cotter pin. It is of vital importance to keep the nut from
coming loose,
And you're done. Now just throw your wheel
back on and take it for a spin. While you may not really notice a
much different drive you will have better function off road most
likely less noise because of a worn out tracbar and now your axle
will be centered under your Jeep.
