WSORR: Renezeder Headed to Crandon for BorgWarner Cup

Renezeder Going For The Cup

Call it a pilgrimage, call it a rite of passage, call it home to the most dedicated off-road fans in the nation, call it whatever you like, but no short-course season is complete without a trip to Crandon International Raceway in Crandon, Wisconsin, and no short-course career is justified without your name on the BorgWarner Cup.

“Everyone looks forward to going to Crandon,” said Carl Renezeder (above), the 2003 winner of the 10-lap BorgWarner Shootout. “But, it’s been way too long since my team has been able to drink from the BorgWarner Cup, so we’re excited to be on our way out there to try to reclaim the title.”

After a full weekend of Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing points events, the PRO 4x4 and PRO 2WD trucks will line up (the PRO 2WDs will be given a handicap start) for a 10-lap, all-or-nothing shootout. You either win or you put your racetruck back on the trailer – there’s no second- or third place-trophy in this event.

Renezeder will qualify both his Lucas Oil/Skyjacker PRO 4x4 and his Lucas Oil PRO 2WD for the race during the Nissan Time Trials on Friday afternoon. The strategy will give him an option on Sunday afternoon, depending on how the points racing plays out in the morning. While the race has only been won overall by a PRO 2WD one time in its 14-year history, it’s still a viable option with the headstart those trucks are given.

“It’s not an easy race to win,” Renezeder said. “My four-wheel-drive truck is my first choice, but with that you still have to get a great start in the land rush, catch the two-wheel-drive trucks and work your way around ten of them in 10 laps. Not an easy task.”

The weekend of events kicks off with the trucks on display in downtown Crandon, followed by a parade, then qualifying starts at 2 p.m. For more information, check out www.wsorr.com.
